Scripture: Luke 24:1-12

The women came prepared to do the work that was expected, the final, loving preparation of the body of one they had loved and were astonished at what they didn't find. Sometimes, expectations are like that; we are certain we'll find one thing and stumble upon something else. These women, surprised though they were, got on with the new work given them. I wonder how much we're governed by our expectations and freeze at the unexpected? I wonder how we can get beyond ourselves, be surprised by grace, and move lightly, even gladly into the horizon of the new?

Randall Curtis

Randall has over 20 years of experience in Episcopal Youth Ministry and currently works at the Episcopal Church in Arkansas where he is the Evangelist and Ministry Developer. He is one of the founders and lead teachers for the Certificate in Youth and Family Ministry of Forma. He builds websites, raise tortoises, and watches more streaming video than anyone probably should. Randall is a clergy spouse and a father living in North Little Rock, AR.

Jenifer Gamber

The Rev. Jenifer Gamber serves as Associate Rector and Day School Chaplain at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Washington, DC, where she shares her love for Jesus and invites all people to life in Christ. Mother of two adult children, Jenifer and her husband, Ed, share a home with a feisty West Highland Terrier. In her free time she leads evensong at the Washington National Cathedral, reads, and walks city streets in search of friendly dog parks.

Victoria Garvey

An educator for most of her life -- a perspicacious 1st grade teacher had her coaching others when she was 6 -- Victoria Garvey has a passion for learning and teaching, and unsurprisingly, for the Church. In her professional career she has taught at nearly every level from 2nd graders through graduate school, but she has spent most of that teaching time at one of our seminaries [Seabury-Western in Evanston, IL] where she taught biblical languages and biblical theology, her doctoral area. Most recently, those passions for learning/teaching/Church were fed in her position as Bishop’s Associate for Lifelong Christian Formation in the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago where she even got paid for doing what she loves. These days, she serves on two faculties for the wider church; consults with a couple of dioceses concerning congregational vitality; and she continues to speak locally, nationally and occasionally, internationally; facilitates workshops; leads retreats; and, in her spare time, serves the wider church as board member and committee member of several church-wide commissions as well as four-time deputy to General Convention.

Jamie Martin-Currie

Jamie Martin-Currie is the former missioner for Christian formation in the Diocese of Texas. Before joining the EDOT staff in 2011, she led the children’s & family ministries at St. Martin’s in Houston for five years and at St. Bartholomew’s in New York for nine years. Jamie teaches Forma’s children & family certificate track after serving as the organization’s president 2015-2017, continues facilitating Gathering of Leaders, and is relishing her sabbatical. In addition to being a graduate of Education for Ministry, Jamie holds a M.S. Ed. from Bank Street College of Education.

Meredith Scott

Meredith is Director of Youth Ministry at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro, North Carolina. She specializes in building “volunteer heart.” By leading youth through volunteer and leadership programs, she walks with them on their spiritual journey as they create a foundation that finds great joy and peace in serving others, living as Christ lived.

Meredith is married to J. Scott and mother to son Jack and daughter Grace. She loves to travel, paint, read, and spend time with family and friends. She owns MBScott Fine Art. She is a life-long learner open to discovery and adventure through spiritual journey and conscious appreciation of God's gift of life.

Holy Eucharist

Sunday, August 14, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Worship in the Episcopal Church rests on scripture and the traditions of the elegant language of the Book of Common Prayer. While the worship might seem more formal than spontaneous, we reliably read scripture every time we worship together, and we follow the liturgy that has stood the test of time. Our worship is in letting the liturgy carry us along into a deeper spiritual awareness and connection with God.
